Want To Help?

We will be doing some fun activities having to do with spiders this Friday before lunch.
If you'd like to come and help with an activity, please let me know through this blog (post a comment), or you can e-mail me at school.
The stations will run from 10:50 - 11:45, and if you show up 5 or 10 minutes early, I can walk you through the gig.
It should be fun!
(as usual, please leave cute, cuddly younger siblings at home...thank you!)

S.Q.U.I.R.T.

At the end of most afternoons, our class has "S.Q.U.I.R.T.". It stands for Silent, Quiet, UnInterrupted Reading Time, and it is a hit!

Everyone has a job during S.Q.U.I.R.T. -

Every child has filled up a small cardboard box ("browsing box") with books that they have chosen. These books are a "good fit", because: the child chose the book, they have a purpose in reading the book, they are interested in the topic, they can comprehend it, and they know most of the words on the pages.

The kids have learned that there is more than 1 way to read a story:
They practice these ways during S.Q.U.I.R.T.

Some sit on the carpet with a "reading buddy".

Others stay at their desks.

Some like to lounge on the carpet!

There is even a chance to play the class keyboard during S.Q.U.I.R.T., and although it's not about reading, it's fun and creative, so why not?!?

Most students in Room 14 agree that S.Q.U.I.R.T. is a very fun time of the day!

Toys Wanted!

Do you have any gently used "kids meal" toys lying around the house?
If so, our class can use them! We collect used toys/trinkets and sell them in our Freaky Friday treasure chest. Kids who decide to spend 15 Monkey Bucks can buy a "treasure", and those types of toys are perfect!

So - keep us in mind next time you're digging through that toy box....

Thanks a lot!

Ciao!

Question:
What do Mrs. Brosnan (trying to tip over the Leaning Tower Of Pisa) & the Camas Educational Foundation have in common?

Answer:
We both want you to enjoy Italian food!

To explain, the CEF is having its annual Silent Auction on October 10th at the Vancouver Hilton. This event will give members of the community the chance to bid on gift baskets, where the proceeds benefit Camas kids.

The 2nd grade is whipping up a gift basket with an Italian theme. Some fun ideas that you might want to contribute are:

Olive Garden gift card
olive oil
cookbook
pasta
pasta tongs
serving bowl

We will be assembling the basket early next week, so if you wanted to toss something in, just send it to school with your 2nd grader! Thank you for considering this!
