We Have Mealworms!

Our spring science unit (my favorite!) is all about insects! Right now, we have milkweed bugs (their eggs) in a class habitat, silkworm eggs, and mealworms! The mealworms will soon turn into darkling beetles. Each person gets to be responsible for caring for their mealworm at their desk. Today, we dumped out the containers into coffee filters and observed them with magnifying glasses. These mealworms are larvae. Next, they will molt their exoskeletons and change into pupae. Finally, they will emerge as adults!

They are kept in cornmeal. Many of them like to dig and hide in it!

We are having a great time in science!
