Leprechaun Traps
The kids in Room 14 tried their HARDEST to catch some sneaky leprechauns on St. Patrick's Day, but those sneaky little guys escaped our traps AGAIN!!! There was glitter and confetti all over the floor, and the traps were a MESS!
Luckily, the leprechauns did do something nice... they left clues for each of the students to follow and get 2 gold chocolate coins!

Counting Money
Do you know what a 2nd grader is expected to do these days?
A 2nd grader in the state of Washington is expected to be able to name each standard U.S. coin, and write its value using the "dollar" and "cent" symbol.
1 quarter and 1 nickel
30 pennies
6 nickels
1 dime, 2 nickels, and 10 pennies
etc, etc, etc
They are also supposed to be able to be able to show different combinations of coins that equal the same value. For example, they should know that 30 cents can be shown with:
1 quarter and 1 nickel
30 pennies
6 nickels
1 dime, 2 nickels, and 10 pennies
etc, etc, etc
They are also expected to know the value of a collection of coins, with a total of less than $1.00.
Keep up the good practice at home!
